In-Home Care & Home Health

If your loved one is still living at home, in-home care and home health therapy services may be of benefit. Different types of care are available, with two of the most common being companionship/personal care and home health.

Personal care and companionship services assist your loved one with everyday & household tasks including but not limited to bathing, dressing, toileting, meal preparation, and light household chores. Payment for these services is usually out of pocket, although long-term care insurance plans often reimburse under certain circumstances.

Home health is a physician-directed service with a care team that may include therapy, nursing, social work, and home health aides. There are certain qualifications and other criteria that must be met in order for these services to be covered by government and private insurance. Providers of these services should be able to discuss details about payment and coverage.

The National Institute on Aging answers some questions about long-term care.
